What Makes a Texas Shingle Install Different
Three things set a Central Texas shingle install apart from a generic one. First, ventilation. Our attics get extreme — 140°F-plus is normal in July and August — and a poorly ventilated attic cooks shingles from underneath, cutting service life dramatically. We install ridge vent and verify intake at the soffits as part of every replacement. Second, underlayment. We don't use 15# felt, period. Felt fails in Texas heat within a few summers and starts curling at every overlap. We install premium synthetic underlayment that actually performs at our temperatures. Third, ice and water shield. Most older Central Texas homes were built with none of it, and Winter Storm Uri taught everyone what happens when ice dams up at an eave with nothing under the shingles. We install self-adhering membrane in valleys, around penetrations, and along eaves on every replacement.
